First off, **congratulations and thank you** for volunteering your time! Our club thrives because of dedicated volunteers like you, and we’re excited to have you as part of our team. Your efforts make soccer possible for our children, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.
Before the Season Starts
You’ve just stepped up as a Head, Assistant Coach or Team Manager—well done! As registration wraps up, teams will be formed, and coaches will be assigned to each division and team by the appropriate division commissioner . Ideally, each team will have a Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and Team Manager. About two weeks before the season starts, you’ll receive your team roster via email. Once you have your roster, here’s what you need to do:
1. **Reach out to your team’s parents**—either individually by phone or through a group email. Be sure to include:
- Who you are and your role
- The name of your team
- Your division
- Your team color
- Practice days and times
- Practice location (park and field number)
Your First Practice
Your first practice sets the tone for the season. Here’s how to make it a success:
1. Introduction: Start by introducing yourself, the assistant coach, and the Team Parent to the players and their parents.
2. Free Play: Let the kids warm up by playing freely on the practice field while you take a moment to speak with the parents.
3. Season Goals: Share your primary goal for the season—having fun and learning about soccer!
4. Safety First: Discuss the lightning policy to ensure everyone knows what to do in case of inclement weather.
5. What to Bring: Inform parents about what their child should bring to each practice (e.g., water, shin guards).
6. Dress Code: Review how players should dress for practices and games.
7. Facility Locations: Provide a quick rundown of where the facilities are located.
8. Cancellation Policy: Explain the cancellation policy and how you will communicate any changes.
